How many species of Babesia are able to infect humans?

More than 100 Babesia spp. have been identified in wild and domestic animals.

Several Babesia spp. have been found to cause disease in humans. These are B. microti, Babesia crassa-like pathogen,
B. divergens, Babesia duncani, and Babesia venatorum, as well as several other Babesia that are closely genetically related (B. divergens-like, B. duncani-type, B. microti-like).
